I’m south of the Mason Dixon line and for the past 24 hours it’s been one long drive. Nothing makes me feel grimier than travel and finally. After morning showers, and as my beloved sleeps here in our comfy bed in our comfy hotel room I couldn’t help but create an entry for a memory. Never been to this state before and I still haven’t seen it yet.
Last night we stayed in the Garden State with his brother’s family. Thinking today’s trip would be cherry pie after yesterday, we didn’t take off til after noon. It was easy for us…we bypassed George Washington bridge via the Tapppan Zee. Statue of Liberty was but a distance off and I hadn’t been to or through NY since 9/11.
Started thinking about the people who, on September 11 2002, were in a car same place we were and who must have seen the plane… and the next one… Felt silent and not surreal (word’s overused) but… silent and still and suspended. Wow. So yeah that was something.
Yesterday was terrible. Washington was awful and congested. Then my favorite. Lincoln Tunnel. Some guy’s had broken down and kept the left lane blocked up and clogged. I don’t do well with tunnels and so the sweating and then the heart palpitations and trying to keep it together and yet. Being stopped in the LINCOLN TUNNEL. Crimony.
All that was yesterday. Today we were smarter. Bought an atlas before leaving NJ. Bypassed the GW and took the Tappan Zee bridge. Grabbed hold of 15 and bypassed I95…til later. Now. Here we are in Seekonk, MA. Til Thursday or so.
If you see me, wave at me.
