South Dakota Bans Abortion

I have made the arguments. I’ve engaged the debates. I was writing papers at 14 years of age making the logical reasons why it makes good sense in being a political Pro-Choice. Knowing at such a young age that if one does not grasp the concept of inherent rights, little will be gained using sentimentality.

Sentimentality. Emotionality. Appeals to the conscience. “What about rape?” “But it’s my uterus.” “I am not the government’s property.” “But men can have careers. Can’t I?” “I’m too young to be a mother.” “She’s a crackhead.” “Yes adoption is viable but I don’t want it in my uterus.” “No it’s not alive. It’s a zygote.” “Okay. It’s a life. Let it pay rent or leave.” “But I don’t have any money to feed myself. Much less a baby.” “I don’t want to get fat and ugly.” “I hate kids.” “What about the right to not have stretchmarks?”

These are all very good and valid arguments or reasons. But it’s more fundamental. The lines are drawn. I have never known a person to become dissuaded from their view of abortion unless they happen to suddenly find themselves in a “position” and even then… I doubt if they’re truly converted. And considering that any position men may find themselves in will never fall on them the way it falls on women…and I’ll deal with that one later… So now what?

I was a Political Science major, was in the Political Science Honor Society, graduated with top honors, sought out Supreme Court opinions, studied political philosophers in my spare time, and aspired to be a Nobel Peace Prize winning Political Analyst. [I still might.] I am only a little qualified to speak on the socio-economic reasons why keeping this in the political arena is counterintuitive, counterproductive, and irresponsible. First of all, the people who would comprehend the implications of this would have to already have a basic intellectual understanding of Darwin’s “Survival of the Fittest.” Getting down to brass tacks, we’d have to right now face that not all people swim in the deep part of the gene pool. And these are the people who have children at alarming rates and at increasingly younger ages.

Women like ME are the ones who have abortions. Girls who were like me are the ones who have abortions. Girls/Women who have understanding of what being a mother means and their knowledge of self that dictates it is exactly that, what they do not want. So what about adoption? Okay. Girls/Women like me understand exactly we do not want to be pregnant. We do not want to stop our lives for 9 months to be pregnant. We want to continue to drink caffeine, alcohol, smoke, ride motorcycles, eat junk food… We want to not get fat, want to continue to work… We want to not be ostracized for being single and pregnant. We want to not go through the pain of childbirth or the pain of separation from our then child. None of these reasons will sate the Anti-Choice person and I offer them with this honesty and in full knowing it will not further them into my understanding. They haven’t the ability; they are clouded by emotion. “When logic fails, try emotion.”

If I had to draw a profile of a woman seeking an abortion I’d have to start with one word and then elaborate operating from that viewpoint: Strong. A woman who knows she does not want to be pregnant. A woman who knows she does not want a baby. A woman who seeks to terminate that possibility at whatever cost [morning after pill, RU-486, procedure, herbs, medicines, overdosing] is very well a woman who is too strong in self for this society. Was probably an Amazonian in a past life and goes to extreme measures to survive well in this life she has created for herself.

She is not using a baby as a band-aid for a failing relationship. She is repulsed by women who use pregnancy to trap a man. She is not scared to be alone in the world. (Well, she may be, but she wouldn’t let a baby come in to fill this hole.) She does not undervalue the life of a child but very well knows it’s worth because she knows hers and is actively seeking to maintain the one she is building. This woman may want a child one day but understands a child is an addition into biology and her life, and not an “oops! oh well. guess i better keep it.” She is not needing someone to love her because she does love herself enough. She is any redneck’s worst nightmare. She is the thorn that domestic abuser’s despise. She does not bend when it comes to who she is or what she wants.

South Dakota does not want women like this to exist. Anti-Choice people have no regard for this type of woman. They regard the rights of the fertilized egg to be more sanctified. I think were I a man, in this increasingly emasculating society, where women are being recognized for more and more achievements, able to stand alone, I could easily move over to the Anti-Choice camp also. It could take only a real man to stand toe to toe on the Pro-Choice side…almost as if to say. “I am not threatened. A woman, as strong as she may be, can be anything she wants.”

With all the niceties out of the way, let me get to the guts quickly: “Not surprisingly, it is the women with the least political weight- poor women and teens-for whom the right to choose an abortion has been most eroded” says Louise Melling, Director of the ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project, in this article. I believe this to be a truth. Teens, in various states, must notify or ask their parents’ permission or seek consent from a Judge citing whatever reasons he asks. Her privacy is completely up for violation. South Dakota now outright forbids it altogether. The poor women will have even more limited choices now. Will have to travel to another state or will risk their lives to end it in a less than safe fashion. Why will they do this rather than have the baby? Because, as I have said, this is the mind of a woman who knows what she wants.

Let’s say abortion is forbidden outright and let’s say it becomes commonplace for unwanted prgnancies to result in pregnancy. Let’s even assume that the genetic strength that has been passed from one generation to another begins to disintegrate and there are no more women who seek abortions at all costs. Let’s say that the women of 2006 begin to get, through osmosis, the idea that they are to be subjugated to the men in power. [The women who subjugate now are at the power of the men and are inherently weak still in their viral meme and are simply the lackeys.] Let’s say the Anti-Choice movement finally gets what it wants.

Overpopulation increases. More welfare for the increasing number of children who will be born and the refusal of the mother’s to give up that it was the guy who dumped her/dad/the rapist/grandpa/Uncle Bob/her ex-boyfriend. So up the welfare state. Now let’s say that the women name all the father’s. Dad doesn’t pay child support. How can he? All his girlfriends are having babies. He has 12 kids and he’s 17 years old. He has to pay child support or go to jail. He won’t go to college…he has to work. What’s his solution? Or let’s say every woman put their unwanteds into adoption. Sounds good when it first starts, but imagine when it finally takes hold. Overcrowding of babies. Some will be adopted. Some won’t. So they’ll go into foster care or group homes. The state will subsidize naturally. Taxes will go up. Either way…the welfare, the jails to handle the crowding for the “deadbeat dads” or government funded foster placement.

People will quit going to college. Who can afford it after a teen pregnancy? Mom or Dad can’t go. The babies certainly won’t. End up in the poor sections of town where Section 8 housing will home them. Drug use will increase in these areas. More drug demand means more drug suppliers. More prostitution for the money they need for the drugs, more disease, more AIDS. And with less opportunity for education and healthcare and decent paying jobs, the disease will rot. The hole will grow larger and will consume everything from the inside out. And if you think the upper echelon will be better when the disease finally diseases itself to death, think again.

Everything affects everything. There are no borders here. This is not in a vacuum. This is life. Once people quit seeing the forest for the trees and start making decisions about what they think is best for me and for you, it’s a matter of natural destruction. It is ANTI-Survival. It goes against our very instinct. But we’ll adapt or die. And when we do, the results will not be what was expected. This is only the tip of the problem for a Paternalistic society.

It’s not a myth that women used to die self-aborting or going to back alley providers. They really did die tragic, painful, bloody and infectious deaths. Anti-Choice people probably don’t much care about that but I do. I do. They did not die trying to prove a point. These women did not die trying to martyr themselves for some rights I do enjoy today. They died because they were too strong in their minds for what that society was made of. They were too strong. They knew what they wanted and having no other available resources they did it the best way they knew how.

Will America continue supporting this virus?

I do make a movement toward understanding why we, as a society, are failing to recognize one fundamental truth of natural law…that, as a species, we do naturally do what is best for ourselves in order to prosper. Failing this ability, we die off. There is a reason for this. Continuing to impose unnatural laws will have individuals desperately reaching inside to grab hold of their own “natural laws by any means necessary.” What this means for society is not a move toward better but an absolute move toward derelict and desperate people. America will be known as the country that failed its people. Abortion banning is one more cog in the machine.
